Joey's Story

"I don't remember my mother, she died when I was two. I guess dad couldn't handle raising me alone, he used to get drunk alot and beat me. Even once I remember he tried to have sex with me. This happened my whole life, till my 14th birthday, when I decided I was better off on my own. So, I left, headed to California and ended up on the streets of Hollywood.
I'm 17 now and after spending two years high and selling drugs to survive, I finally accepted LAYN's offer for help. Nick was really persistent about helping me and it finally paid off. I've been in their shelter for six months and I'll be getting my own GED soon. Thanks to LAYN, I finally have hope in my life."

The LAYN Response:
LAYN's outreach teams are on the streets, persistently reaching out to youth living on the street. The goal is to build enough trust that the young person will choose to come back to the shelter for help.
