"I'm a fourth generation gang member.
It's a way of life, from my great-grandfather, to my grandfather, to my
dad and now me. I never had to think twice about it. I dropped out of school
in the 9th grade to live the street life - gang banging, selling drugs and
robbing people. When I was 14, my younger brother died in my arms, the victim
of a rival gang member's knife.

| All I really want is to survive
and stay alive to see another day. LAYN is good, because it gives me a safe
place to rest for a bit. I'm constantly looking over my shoulder. I also
like talking to Jaime, he's real cool and he never judged me. He's the first
person that expected something better from me." |
The LAYN Response:
LAYN's Day Services provide basic services for young people that may
not be ready to come off the street, but still need a safe place to hand their
hat, take a shower or get a bite to eat.
