Teo Martinez Teo Martinez, Chairman

 Teo Martinez graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Later he earned an executive MBA from Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management, where he was inducted as a Beta Gamma Sigma honoree. 

CEO of surrogacy and egg donation agency, Growing Generations, Martinez has been involved with assisted reproduction and alternative parenting since 1999, and is an considered an authority in the field of surrogacy and egg donation administration, as well as cost analysis. As CEO, Martinez currently oversees the Strategic Development of Growing Generations. In addition, he is the executive officer in charge of customer care and satisfaction. With his educational background and over 14 years of experience in the industry, Martinez is one of the most experienced and accomplished professionals in his field.

H BillerHope Biller, Vice-Chairman
A two-time Emmy nominated producer, Hope produced and directed documentaries for many years but is now semi-retired and spends the majority of her time raising two children (Sofia and Sam).  Hope grew up in Philadelphia and attended the University of Pennsylvania and has lived in Los Angeles for 20 years.  Residing in Los Feliz, Hope is proud to be a member of the LAYN board.

S KayScott Kay, Treasurer
Scott is currently an acting principal at Vine Street Partners. His most recent project involved the opening of Wood & Vine, a 4000+ square foot restaurant and bar in the heart of Hollywood. He is currently actively involved in the day to day operations of Wood & Vine. Prior to his current role Scott served as Executive Director at JPMorgan, where he headed a fixed income trading division in New York. With 10 years of service at JPMorgan, he has experience working in both London and New York, with extensive high private net worth and institutional capital relationships globally. An Australian by birth, Scott has spent many years living and working in Asia, Europe and the U.S. He received a B.A. in Economics from Northwestern University and studied International Economics in Brussels.

Diana BuckhantzDiana Buckhantz, Secretary
Diana runs her family foundation focusing on issues around runaway and homeless youth, aging, reproductive rights, arts in the schools and women in Eastern Congo and Chad. She is also a social issue public relations consultant with a 25-year track record in obtaining media attention for non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and foundations. Diana recently embarked on theatrical producing by being part of the team that brought the Tony-nominated musical Leap of Faith to Broadway. She is also proud to have been a producer of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays in New York City. Diana began her professional career producing award-winning documentaries including “Dying with Dignity” and “Not A Question of Courage,” both for KTLA. Her documentaries have also received two National EMMY awards, two local EMMY Awards, the Scripps Howard Award for Broadcast Journalism, the NAPTE National Iris Award, the National Education Award and three Angel Awards among others. Her best production, however, is her wonderful son, Sam.  She often looks at him and wonders what his life would have been like if he needed to run away and live on the streets. Hopefully he would have found his way to Los Angeles Youth Network where he would have found the support and help he needed.

R AllynRussell Allyn, Director
Russell Allyn is Senior Counsel at the firm Buchalter Nemer in the Litigation Practice Group in Los Angeles. Mr. Allyn's practice focuses on commercial and business litigation. He represents financial, manufacturing, retail, entertainment and other business interests in both federal and state court.  Mr. Allyn earned his J.D. at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1989, where he was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Commercial Paper. He received his B.A. in Political Science and U.S. History at the University of California at San Diego in 1986.

Ram CoganRam Cogan, Director

Ram Cogan is a partner at Wasser, Cooperman & Carter, PC located in Century City where he practices family law with an emphasis on complex/high asset cases.  A graduate of UC Berkeley and UCLA School of Law, Ram began his career in 1987 as an associate at Hawkins, Schnabel & Lindahl, a boutique litigation firm where he specialized in business litigation/professional liability.  During his nearly eighteen years with the firm, Ram’s hard work and expertise handling all aspects of complex litigation in both the state and federal courts for individuals and corporations, earned him the title of Partner as well as Managing Partner.  Ram is honored to serve on the LAYN Board of Directors and looks forward to contributing toward the fulfillment of its goals/objectives.

David Cottrell, Director

David’s career spans more than 30 years as a C-level executive, marked by rapid acquisitive client growth. David takes an innovative, yet practical and assured, approach to arrive at the best business solutions and their implementation. His uncanny, significant foresight fast-tracks and re-energizes business directions. He acts with speed, strategy and precision to negotiate comprehensive deals. Dave leverages clients’ expansion by spearheading the development and execution of cooperative programs to support organizational growth, including strategic analysis and planning, targeted business and client development, operating model and profitability enhancements, compensation, incentive and retention programs, and integrated marketing and brand management. This ensures successful, profitable integration and management of any style operating model, culture, system, policy and infrastructure.

Leslie Kaplan, Director
Leslie Kaplan, MD, is a pediatrician specializing in adolescent and young adult medicine. After receiving her medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, she went on to a pediatrics residency at Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles, followed by a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Since finishing training, she has worked in the school-based health clinic at Hollywood High School, the Kaiser Permanente Teen Clinic, as well as The Student Health Center at Pepperdine University. Currently, she is the staff physician at The Bella Vita, an eating disorder treatment program serving LA and Ventura Counties. She lives in Encino with her husband and three daughters. She is honored to serve on the LAYN Board of Directors and witness the life-altering interventions that take place every day at LAYN.

Don Polite Don Polite, Director

Don is an experienced brand marketer with over 20 Years of experience working on high-profile brands across the Consumer Packaged Goods, Entertainment, Sports and Industrial Industries.  Don is currently Director, Corporate Brand & Marketing at Johnson Controls, a $38 Billion Global Multi-Industrial Company headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.   In this role, Don drives the strategic brand direction and communication strategy for the Johnson Controls Corporate Brand.  Prior to his current position, Don worked for eight years at Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group in brand marketing and sales planning roles.  Additionally, he has managed a number of strategic DVD Partnership roles on behalf of Warner Bros. with leading sports/entertainment brands including the NBA, NFL, NHL LEGO, VIZ Media and Cartoon Network.

Prior to joining Warner Bros. Don held stints in marketing with NBC Universal Home Entertainment, Disney Consumer Product and Abbott Laboratories.  Don earned a B.S. in Human Development & Social Policy from Northwestern University in 1990 and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business in 1996.  Don was also member of the Men’s Basketball Team from 1986 through 1990, where he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 1990.  Don and his wife Deborah have a 9 year-old son (Trevor) and Don has another son Harrison (20 years old) who is a freshman at Bowdoin College in Maine.

John Ryan, CPA is president of Elite Commercial Incentive Services.  John received his bachelors degree in accounting and Japanese from the University of Notre Dame and started his career with BDO Seidman.  John worked nearly two decades in the non-profit sector for a variety of organizations, and is excited to leverage this diverse experience in the boardroom.


 Tom Swan Website Tom J. Swan III, Director

Tom is the co-CEO of The Swan Group which operates businesses in North America, Asia and Europe that manufacture and distribute heating, plumbing, well water and water treatment products that are sold in most parts of the world. Previously, Tom worked in investment banking and began his career practicing law. He graduated from Harvard College and Georgetown Law School. In addition to the Los Angeles Youth Network, Tom serves on the McLean Hospital National Council and is a Campaign Reunion co-chair for his Harvard College class.  He lives with his young son and daughter in Los Angeles and Cape Cod and enjoys reading, running, golf, friends.
